Long time…
Haven’t posted in months and this one won’t be Earth shattering but my brother sent me a great picture that has been cracking me up for days now. Enjoy.

Tune in next week when our hero and father-in-law saves an injured hawk.
Working on post now but won’t publish until pictures are uploaded.
Talk about appropriate. This Christmas holiday, SpikeTV is running a Star Wars marathon. Meanwhile, a strong winter storm has moved through Oklahoma, turning Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and most of our other major cities, making everything strongly resemble Hoth. OKC got a record 14″ of snow and Tulsa looks to have 7″ plus by the time it’s over. For only the second time ever a blizzard warning was issued for Tulsa and this is the first recorded white Christmas in Tulsa.
When it rains it pours. This is generally how it goes when dealing with my former employer. For the sake of this blog (and because I think it’s funny), we will refer to him as the Emporer. He is easily the least technical person I’ve ever dealt with, mostly because he doesn’t have the patience to sit and learn it. Case in point, I spent three and a half hours at his Palace the other night, watching educational videos on Outlook 2003. After the first hour, I was ready to be fed to the all mighty Sarlack! Today, I get a call cause the office Palace is having server issues. Guess I know where I’m spending my lunch. The only reason I’m doing it is I need the money to get the bounty hunters off my back.
Last night was one of the highlights of my life. No matter where I am or what is going on, any time I hear the Star Wars theme song I am transported instantly back to 1978. Like most people my age (especially males), Star Wars had a profound affect on me. Whether it was the classical plots/themes and characters or the lightsaber, I was hooked. Countless hours were spent playing with action figures, “playing” Star Wars with the other neighborhood kids, and re-enacting the Sand People/Luke Skywalker scene with my best friend in his front yard with an actual garden hoe. As I got older, I started reading the books. Back then this didn’t consist of the hundreds of books and spidering story line. It was the books commissioned by George Lucas for the movies. Flash forward to 1997 and the release of “Phantom Menace” and it started all over for me. Whether or not the “new” trilogy is as good as the old trilogy (it isn’t) doesn’t matter. It IS STILL Star Wars.
The point of this post? The music. It’s iconic as well. I honestly believe the series would not be what it is today with out it. It was the perfect marriage between Lucas’s vision and Williams’s genius. Which brings me to last night. For those of you who don’t know, the latest piece of Star Wars history is a traveling orchestra and choir simply titled Star Wars in Concert. If anyone has the chance to go and you are either 1) a Star Wars fan and/or 2) a fan of classical music, you MUST go. I can’t put it into words how much I enjoyed it. All I can say is… I ACTUALLY GOT TO HEAR AND SEE THE STAR WARS THEME PLAYED LIVE!
I’ll post photos when I get them off the camera.
Been a long time since my last post. Would like to say I have been preoccupied with something grand, like saving the galaxy from the Evil empire. Sadly, no valiant death defying races along the exoskeleton of the Death Star or battles along side the Ewoks. Just life jumping up and grabbing me by the short hairs.
Things are looking up. Once again, my lovely bride, Princess Leia, has come through. For my birthday, she got tickets to the Star Wars show coming to town. Tomorrow at this time I will be knee deep in the spectacular music of John Williams, movie props and loving every minute of it.
My good buddy, Han Solo sent me this last week. Really took me back to my youth when he and I re-ancted the Hoth battle with action figures, an AT-AT, packing peanuts and a ping pong table. Good times.
More to come later.
Lots of stuff going on since the last post. Won’t bore everyone with all the details but only hit some of the highlights.
Most important – My XBox 360 died last week! The ever popular “Red Ring of Death” strikes again. Also known as the RROD, it has plagued systems for years now, so much so that Microsoft set aside $1 billion to fix them and extended warranties to 3 years. Already have it back and it appears to work just fine. Seems quieter also.
Lakers win NBA title – didn’t really care who won but my prediction of Shaq winning a title before Kobe did proved to be the most prophetic statement I have ever made.
Deaths galore – Farrah Fawcett, Steve McNair, The Shamwow guy, Karl Malden, Ed McMahon and of course Michael Jackson. Of all those, Steven McNair and MJ are the most shocking. The others led long lives (except Shamwow but was he really famous?) and had been sick for sometime. McNair made a mistake but before we judge, remember, we don’t know all the details of his life, marriage or other business. As for MJ, the Michael Jackson I know and love died a long time ago.
No hitter – A random San Francisco Giants pitcher threw a no-hitter last night.
UFC 100 – Leaving to go watch it at a friends house. Looking forward to it.
After five consecutive days of 100+ degrees, it has finally cooled down. It rained last night or early this morning and temps are supposed to be in the upper 80s or low 90s. Amazing how the 10 degree difference feels more like 30.
Enough about the weather Who comes to a blog to talk about the weather? Not that people are coming to my blog anyway but… Saw a copuple movies this weekend that I enjoyed. Oddly enough they both starred one of my favorite actors, Ryan Reynolds. You might even say he is my current man crush. I am secure enough in my masculinity to agree. Friday night we watched “The Proposal” with Mr. Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. Thought it was predictable but still good. Nice date movie and both of them were funny. the cast was great which included a very funny Betty White.
Last night we watched “Definitely, Maybe” on DVD. It wasn’t as good as “The Proposal” but still enjoyed it. It was more of a drama than “The Proposal” but still had enough comdedy to keep you chuckling. However, the actresses cast in “Definitely, Maybe” was first rate. Rarely do you see 2 actresses with marquee power in 1 move but this one had 3; Rachael Weisz, Elizabeth Banks, and Isla Fisher. Throw in Abigail Bresling as Ryan Reynolds’s daughter and you could argue there were 4 great actresses in the movie.
To top it all off, caught the last 15 minutes of “Van Wilder” before going to bed on Comedy Central. Love that movie. Reynolds at his very best.
Enough for now. Coming soon… more of nothing.
It’s probably happened to everyone. Hell, I have done it myself but this guy took it to a new level. What am I talking about?
Repushing elevator buttons
This started off like any other wait for an elevator. As I walk up to the elevator, I see a gentleman approaching me who obviously is going to use the elevators as well. I reach out and push the UP button as he approaches and wait. When he gets next to me, he reaches out and pushes the already pushed and BRIGHT green button again. OK, not a big deal. A lot of people do that when they come up, repush the button even though it’s lit and they witness someone push it. Here’s the kicker. The elevator arrives, I get in first, and seeing how 1) I was first to get in and 2) am wearing my badge which clearly shows I am employed for the company that owns the building, I politely ask him which floor and push the appropriate button. From the other side of the car (2 control panels, 1 on each side), he REPUSHES THE LIT BUTTON FOR THE FLOOR I JUST PUSHED AND HAD ASKED HIM ABOUT! WTF!
At this point I actually am starting to doubt my button pushing skills but realize that can’t be it since Princess Leia says I push her buttons all the time (insert snarky/sexual innuendo joke here). He departs on his floor and I go to mine wondering to myself about what runs through peoples head sometimes. I’m not even sure you can qualify this as bad manners, rudeness or something else. How about just something that pissed me off at the time.
Now for my semi-regular YouTube clip. This week some friends and I started reliving the old days of the Michael Jordan era. We religiously watched all Bulls games and even made an impromptu trip to Chicago after the 1993 championship for the celebration in Grant Park. This led me to the clips below of MJ and the rest of the 1992 Dream Team. Best part of first clip is Sir Charles when asked about Angola. The second clip is the total dominance of Angola.
The weekend is over and time to start a new work week, which means I will be 1) continue to show our new printer vendor the location of all our printers at the off-site locations, 2) keep filling in for my supervisor while she enjoys Vegas and, 3) being on call when she gets back. Lucky me.
Been catching up on one of our new favorite shows all spring to catch up to this seasons premiere, Burn Notice. It’s a cross between Bourne Identity and Magnum PI. Plus the little snipets on the website for ‘What if…’ situations is cool. Check below.
