C3PO and his orchestra
Last night was one of the highlights of my life. No matter where I am or what is going on, any time I hear the Star Wars theme song I am transported instantly back to 1978. Like most people my age (especially males), Star Wars had a profound affect on me. Whether it was the classical plots/themes and characters or the lightsaber, I was hooked. Countless hours were spent playing with action figures, “playing” Star Wars with the other neighborhood kids, and re-enacting the Sand People/Luke Skywalker scene with my best friend in his front yard with an actual garden hoe. As I got older, I started reading the books. Back then this didn’t consist of the hundreds of books and spidering story line. It was the books commissioned by George Lucas for the movies. Flash forward to 1997 and the release of “Phantom Menace” and it started all over for me. Whether or not the “new” trilogy is as good as the old trilogy (it isn’t) doesn’t matter. It IS STILL Star Wars.
The point of this post? The music. It’s iconic as well. I honestly believe the series would not be what it is today with out it. It was the perfect marriage between Lucas’s vision and Williams’s genius. Which brings me to last night. For those of you who don’t know, the latest piece of Star Wars history is a traveling orchestra and choir simply titled Star Wars in Concert. If anyone has the chance to go and you are either 1) a Star Wars fan and/or 2) a fan of classical music, you MUST go. I can’t put it into words how much I enjoyed it. All I can say is… I ACTUALLY GOT TO HEAR AND SEE THE STAR WARS THEME PLAYED LIVE!
I’ll post photos when I get them off the camera.
