Youtube

I’ve never been a YouTube freak.  Not that I have anything against it, it just never appealed to me to search through thousands of videos if it didn’t involve porn.  Until now.  You can find anything on YouTube! Most people will be saying, “No shit,” but that’s ok.

Recently, I decided to try and find a clip of an episode of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.  In this episode, Don Rickles had hosted the night before and accidentally broken Johnny’s cigarette box (this was in 1977 when you could smoke on live TV).  Johnny found out and proceeded to track him down.  Funny stuff.  After finding it, I started looking at the suggested viewing and then started searching for other things.   Hours later I finally understood what all the talk was about.

Below are a few of the videos I found and enjoyed.  By the way, I’m a big Kevin Smith fan.

Princess Leia dream come true

Found a picture the other day that took me back to my formative years.  If you are a male born circa 1970, this will both make you laugh and if you are like me, remind of you some early fantasies.

So long to a good friend

Last night ended the 15 year run of one of my, and I think histories, all-time favorites TV shows, “ER“.  Like everyone else, I started watching it when it debuted in 1994 and was immediately hooked.  The fast pace, the medical dialogue, the style of shooting, and the great cast made the show different than anything on TV.

Other than Anthony Edwards, who everyone knew from “Top Gun” but not anything on television, the main cast were relative unknowns.  George Clooney had been on several TV shows, including “Facts of Life” and a half hour comedy called, strangely, “ER”, but nothing that would make you think he would eventually become “George Clooney”.

Of course, once the show took off and people started to become uber-famous, cast members started to leave.  Once Dr. Ross (Clooney) left, many people believed the show was doomed.  However, it continued to thrive due to the remaining originals.

Of all the characters, I believe the two most vital were Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) and Dr. John Carter (Noah Wyle).  Dr. Greene was the soul of “ER”.  When he developed cancer and you got to see him gradually decline, you felt as if you were watching a family member.  He meant so much to you it was very hard to watch.  The episode in which he died, ‘On the Beach’, was probably one of the saddest shows I ever watched.  It was the end of an era and every episode after it you felt his loss.

If Dr. Greene was the soul of  ”ER” than Dr. Carter the the heart.  You had watched him grow up from the wide-eyed first year intern to the grizzled veteran.  After the death of Dr. Greene, Dr. Carter was the last remaining original cast member, other than some of the nurses and staff.  Along the way, it seemed that anything that could go wrong for him, would go wrong.  As my roomates and I said, “Carter is taking it in the shorts again.”  To date, my favorite “ER” moment was the episode in which Dr. Carter and Lucy Knight are stabbed by a patient.  In this episode and the next, you watch as they struggle to survive.

Once Dr. Carter left, I stopped watching.  I caught a few episodes here and there but it was never the same.  Watching the finale reminded me of the old shows.  I liked the way the brought the old crew back, except I think they totally dropped the ball with the Dr. Ross story line.  The ending saw a huge accident rolling into the ER with all docs ready to go.  Also there was Rachel Greene, Dr. Greene’s now grown up daughter and a medical school applicant.  The last few lines of dialogue between Dr. Carter and Rachel helped tie the pilot episode from 15 years ago in with the finale.  They were the same lines Dr. Greene said to Dr. Carter.

In case you missed it, here it is.

If you build it, they will come

To my surprise, the memory for the WMC machine arrived a day before the estimated time of delivery.  After popping the 2Gb stick in and firing it up, it’s now running at 3Ghz’s with 3Gb of RAM.  Recorded some TV for the first time the other night and it worked like a champ.  Unfortunately the picture quality is not great, but that is because of the analog signal not the WMC.  My only complaints with WMC so far is are not being able to play DVDs and not able to play music that is stored on a pc other than the WMC.  Both of these issues occur when trying to play them over the XBox 360.  Probably ways around this but I haven’t found them.  If anyone has any ideas, other than using Transcoder or some other 3rd party app, let me know.

There are a couple of other things on my mind but it would make this post very long.  Stay tuned for more WMC, ironic news story, and the finale of “ER”.

Round 2 of Sweet 16

Syracuse and OU just tipped off. Want the Big 12 to win, even if it is the Sooners. Blake Griffin is a stud, no doubt. OU up early 5 – 0.

Don’t expect much as far as updates. Have my time split tonight

Game over.  Wow.  OU put it on them.  I thought they would win but thought it would be much closer.  Blake’s a stud but still don’t care for his attitude after making a great play.  But that is the way of todays player.  Louisville won going away too.  Hopefully the late games will be closer.

Sweet 16

How about some running comments on the NCAA tourney. Missed the early games but UConn beat Purdue and Pitt beat Xavier. The game I’ve been looking forward to is Missouri and Memphis. Game was close early in the first half but Missouri has opened up a 13 point lead at half (with a nearly three quarter court shot at the buzzer). Although Memphis was my pick to win it all, I have a soft spot for Missouri (even though they beat my Cowboys twice) since Mike Anderson played at Tulsa with Coach Nolan Richardson when I grew up here. Those Coach Richardson Tulsa teams really captured the heart of the city and it seemed like everyone was following them. Hell, I went to Coach’s basketball camp!

The thing about Missouri’s trapping style is, unless you are disciplined, it may not fluster you every time but when it does the points usually come in bunches. It’s like the cumulative effect of body shots in boxing or MMA. May not seem like much at first but late in the game teams get tired and/or flustered.

Look for more during the second half.

10:15pm (CST) – Second half  underway and Missouri is kicking Memphis’s ass!  Up by 24.  Memphis looks like they are trying to hit the ever elusive 24 point shot to get back into the game.  Never saw this one coming but probably should have.  When you have  a well coached team play Memphis and you have the athletes, Memphis loses.  My Cowboys kicked their ass in 2005 when they were “unstoppable”.  OSU beat them by 20, if I remember correct.

Oops, timeoute over.  Back to the game.

10:40pm 8:35 left in the second half.  Missouri up 78 – 66.  Memphis trying to make a run but can’t hit free throws.  Memphis’s bench just got a technical foul.  That’s the 2nd on the team.  Really should have been called on Coach Callipari.  One more on him and he will be watching from the locker room.

10:50pm 5:30 left.  Missouri cut it to 8.  Memphis making a serious run.  Missouri not taking good shots and looking tired.

11:05pm 1:30 left.  Missouri up by 10.  Not much time left and Memphis looks like a team who is beat.  Not giving up yet.  Now it’s 8.  Timeout.

11:15pm 40.6 seconds left and Missouri up by 9.  Memphis can’t hit 3′s or free throws.

Game over.  By the way, Villanova kicking the crap out of Duke by 20.  Off to bed.

What’s that behind you?

Nothing like going to work in the morning with your child in the back seat and getting rear ended.  Just sitting at a red light, minding your own business, talking to the kiddo and *boom*.  No one hurt and no real extensive damage to my vehicle.  Scared the shit of the kid but he is ok.

The WMC (Windows Media Center) is working nicely!  It connects to the XBox without any problems and the TV tuner, although not supplying the greatest picture, works and will enable us to record the least desirable show without spending any extra money.  The next step is trying to get it to play ripped DVDs and to have a network cable pulled to eliminate the wireless.  All and all, a fun and worthwhile project.

Nothing major, just lots of minors

Been a relatively uneventful few days.  However, this doesn’t mean there are not things to talk about.

Have mixed feelings about AIG bailout and bonus scandal.  If I was one who got a bonus, I would want the money promised to me.  However, how can accept the money when it is generally believed your tactics helped lead to the decline of the company.  If I had the answer, I would be working in DC.  And that’s all I have to say about that.

NCAA tournemant has started with the play-in game on Tuesday.  Morehead State beat Alabama State 58-43.  Congrats, you get to play the #1 team in the country, Louisville!  My OSU Cowboys are back in the tourney after a 3 year absence, playing the Tenessee Volunteers on Thursday.  Still very odd not seeing Eddie Sutton and Sean Sutton on the sideline but Coach Travis Ford is doing a great job and has a bright future in Stillwater.

Last night, started seriously working on a Windows Media Center pc.  The wife, let’s call her Princess Leia, and I had contemplated another DVR from Cox but don’t want to pay the extra money.  I was already messing around with Windows 7 Ultimate Beta and thought, why not.  So far, it is very promising.  Ordered more RAM and have a few more drivers.  After that, I will try integrating the XBox 360 into it and have some DVR magic.  More to come on this later.

Time to get back to the NCAA tournament.

P.S.  Cowboys win first round game 77-75 with a 3 point play by Byron Eaton.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

Here it is, my own little slice of the Net.  After a little self taught CSS (mostly asking lots of questions to TQuizzle), some Photoshop (still have issues with border around logo) and a lot of procrastination, JediFunk has arrived from his years of hiding from the Empire.

Don’t expect Earth shattering ideas, solutions to world issues or the economy here.  This is just a place for me to share thoughts, ideas, things that make me laugh, cry or just say “hmmm”.  Occasionally, I may open the floor to friends and/or family but for the most part it will be all me.

On that note, found this photo while surfing and thought it was cool.  There are over 100 “famous” people in this .  They say if you can get 30 or more than you know your pop culture.

More later.

Hello world!

Trying to figure out this whole blog/wordpress “thing”.  Give me time!
